Triveni Sangam ghat
About This Destination
Triveni Ghat is the largest and most sacred river ghat in Rishikesh, located on the banks of the holy Ganga. The name “Triveni” signifies the spiritual confluence of three rivers—Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati—believed to meet here invisibly. For centuries, this ghat has been a major center for ritual bathing, religious ceremonies, ancestral rites, and spiritual practices, making it one of the most important pilgrimage sites in North India. Geographically, Triveni Ghat lies in the foothills of the Himalayas at an elevation of about 372 meters above sea level and is centrally located within Rishikesh, making it easily accessible for visitors. The area holds deep mythological importance; according to Hindu belief, Lord Krishna visited Triveni Ghat during his final days, further enhancing its religious significance. The main attraction of Triveni Ghat is the daily evening Ganga Aarti, performed at sunset. Priests conduct the ceremony with oil lamps, incense, bells, and Vedic chants, creating a powerful spiritual atmosphere that draws pilgrims, tourists, photographers, and spiritual seekers from around the world. During major festivals such as Ganga Dussehra, Makar Sankranti, Kartik Purnima, and Diwali, the ghat witnesses a massive influx of devotees.
